DAVID R. BRIDGE

David is the co-creator and former Associate Editor and Illustrations Director of National Geographic Traveler magazine. He began his publishing career at Time/Life Books in 1963 and moved to the National Geographic Society in 1966. During eighteen years with the Society he direct the illustration content of more than thirty books, including the massive National Geographic Cultural Atlas of the Ancient World, Peoples and Places of the Past.

David was one of the professional photographers who participated in the first Focus on Africa project in 1993. He co-authored with David Anderson, the co-creator of Focus on Africa and chairman of Focus On Planet Earth, Focus on Africa: Wildlife, Conservation, and Man, the book that was created from the images captured by the 136 photographers who travel to Africa in support of conservation and community development.

As a freelance writer/photographer, he has done assignments for various publications including Smithsonian Books, Mid-Atlantic Country magazine, and Arizona Highways.  

David makes his home in Carmel, California now with his wife, Joy.
